THURLESTONE JUNIOR ACADEMY
In 2014 we started the Thurlestone Junior Academy with one group of 6 juniors and now we have 6 groups. This success is due to the work we have achieved in local schools, showcasing at the Kingsbridge Show and the structure in place within the Academy, also the enthusiasm of the Junior Committee here at Thurlestone Golf Club, each individual junior and their parents have to be praised too.
The Academy has been ably supported by Thurlestone Golf Club, with the Club offering Academy members a special introductory HALF PRICE membership deal once they have attended two Blocks of 6 lessons.
JUNIOR GOLF ACCESS
During the past few years we have introduced Junior Golf Access here at Thurlestone. Each child is invited to play in an Access Event organised by the Junior Committee. Each event is on the 6th week of each Junior Academy course and is a fantastic way for the children (and parents) to monitor their individual progression.
Golf Access is an exciting new format designed to encourage new participants to play golf for the first time, with the opportunity to learn the game on the golf course, rather than solely on the driving range or practice ground. It is played over 3, 6 or 9 holes depending on the childs ability.
The colour coded progress levels and short course format is designed to make the experience not only extremely enjoyable, but to take participants from complete beginner, right through to the point when they are ready to obtain an official handicap and become a full member of the Golf Club.
DATES FOR JUNIOR ACADEMY IN 2024:
The Academy starts on the first Saturday of each new school term and will run for 6 consecutive weeks. Please contact Steve Jack or Tracy for more information on 01548 560715

FRIDAY NIGHT JUNIORS 2024
Every Friday from 12th April 2024 through to 20th September 2024.
Course Management Focused with weekly fun competitions.
Start Time: 17:00 End Time 19:00
Focus:
The primary focus of the Friday night session is to introduce the juniors to the golf course and thinking their way around the golf course. The Friday night session is an extension from Saturday mornings and is designed primarily to use the skills and knowledge created from attending Saturday sessions and use it on the golf course.
Objectives:
Learn the different types of game play (e.g. Medal, Stableford, Better Ball…)
Use course management to problem solve different situations around the course.
Utilising and learning the rules of golf.
Understand and implement course etiquette.
Partake in competitions and skills challenges to enhance participation and enjoyment.
Competitions:
Throughout the 24 Weeks of Friday night juniors we will be running various competitions using different formats, for example: Betterball, Stableford and Medal. This will help participants to understand the different rules and how to play various competitions. The competitions will also count towards a yearly Order of Merit in order to add value to the Friday night sessions. The winner of which will be announced at the yearly Junior Presentation evening in November along with other prizes.
On-Course Coaching:
Sadly not everything can be catered for within the Saturday sessions, which makes the Friday night attendance extremely important. As well as competitions and skills tests we will also be running on course sessions in order to help the juniors expand their knowledge of different situations on the golf course. This course management is designed to help the juniors experience how to get around the course and make them into more complete golfers.
